Personal Cloud

Troubleshooting and FAQ

Since 0.6.0 Requires Cloak Proxy 0.6.0 or later.

Fix Personal Cloud sign-in, approval, sync, share link and billing problems, and find answers to common questions about privacy, plans and your data.

Most Personal Cloud problems show a message in Settings › Cloud that says what happened and what to do. This page collects those messages by area, then answers common questions.

Problem or message What to do
The email doesn’t arrive Check spam and filters for mail from cloud@subcloak.com, subject “Your Cloak Proxy sign-in code”. Wait for Send again to become available and click it, or check the address with Use a different email.
That code isn’t right. Check the email and try again. Type the 6 digits from the newest email. Each Send again sends a new code.
Too many wrong codes. Send a new one. Click Send again.
The code has expired. Send a new one. Codes work for 10 minutes. Click Send again.
Too many tries. Try again in … seconds. Wait, then try again.
Couldn’t reach Subcloak: … Check your connection. If your network filters traffic, allow cloud.subcloak.com.
That looks like a disposable email address, so it can’t be used for Personal Cloud… Use an address you’ll keep: it’s how you sign in and get receipts.
This Mac was signed out of Personal Cloud. Sign in again to keep syncing. The session ended, for example because this Mac was removed from your account. Sign in again; it may need approving.
Too many wrong codes. Use the link in the email instead. Click Confirm Sign-In in the email, or wait and send a new code.
This Mac was removed from your Personal Cloud… Another of your computers removed this Mac. If you didn’t do this, check your email for a deletion request (it has a cancel link) and use your Recovery Kit to get back in.

Cloak Proxy’s own traffic to Cloud never goes through its proxy, so capturing traffic and Cloud don’t interfere with each other.

Problem What to do
The other Mac shows nothing It must be signed in and set up, with Settings › Cloud open. Requests appear there, not as notifications.
The codes don’t match Click Deny on the Mac you already use and Cancel on the new one. Start again. If they never match, don’t approve: contact support.
The request expired after 10 minutes. Ask again. Open Settings › Cloud on your other Mac first, then click Ask Again.
Your plan allows 5 computers… Remove a computer you no longer use.
You don’t have another Mac to hand Click Use Recovery Kit Instead…. Note that this signs out your other computers. See Recovery Kit.

More messages are on Add another Mac.

What This Mac › Sync says Meaning What to do
Up to date. Syncing N types. All good.
Syncing N changes… Uploading or downloading. Wait.
Offline. N changes wait for a connection. No connection to Cloud. Changes are kept on this Mac. They upload when you’re back online.
N items need a look. Something in Sync issues needs you. Click Review…. See Review changes.
Uploads paused until you answer the question above. Downloads still work. Another computer changed your account’s computers. Click Answer…. See Did you do this?
Paused: the plan has ended. Downloads still work. Your plan ended. Buy again within 30 days to keep your Cloud data.
Problem What to do
A rule from another Mac does nothing here Rules that can act on your Mac arrive off. Switch it on, or approve it in Sync issues. See Rules that act on your Mac.
A synced request fails because a variable or credential is empty Changed requests run without your variables until you approve them, and secrets stay on each Mac unless you sync them. See Secret values.
A synced request lost its file or “Verify TLS certificates” setting File paths and TLS switches stay on each Mac. Set them again on this Mac.
Scripts don’t run in a synced workspace They changed on another Mac. Click Trust in the API client’s banner after checking them.
“Not uploaded: it contains a secret value from this Mac…” Remove the secret from the item, or move it into a secret variable.
“Too large to sync (over 25 MB).” Make the item smaller, for example a mock set with fewer recorded responses.
A workspace says “Git already syncs it” Workspaces in a Git repository are left to Git. Use Git to share them.
Push connection: Not connected Changes are still checked every few minutes. Networks that block WebSockets cause this.
Storage used is near the limit Turn off types you don’t need in What syncs, or remove large mock sets. Uploads over the limit are refused.
An Integrity warning Sync stopped because something from the server didn’t check out. Your data on each Mac is fine. Contact support with the text. See Integrity warnings.
Problem or message What to do
Share Link… is greyed, with a gold star Share links need a Personal Cloud plan. Choosing it shows what’s included and Get Personal Cloud….
Share Link… isn’t in the menu Your organization has turned share links or Personal Cloud off.
Share links need a Personal Cloud plan… Buy one in Settings › Cloud › Plan.
You have 50 active links, the most Personal Cloud keeps at once… Revoke links you no longer need in Settings › Cloud › Share links.
Personal Cloud makes up to 20 new links a day… Try again tomorrow, or reuse a link you already made.
The share is larger than the 100 MB a link can hold… Share fewer requests, or leave out bodies.
Personal Cloud refused the link’s expiry… Links last from 1 hour to 30 days. If you chose one of those, check this Mac’s date and time.
Cloud didn’t accept this Mac’s sign-in. Sign in again in Settings › Cloud. Sign in again.
The recipient sees This link has ended It expired, reached its view limit or was revoked, or your plan ended. Make a new link.
The recipient sees This link is incomplete The part after # got cut off. Send the whole link again.
You lost the link The key is only in the link. Revoke the old one and make a new link.
Problem or message What to do
The checkout page closed Click Open Again within 30 minutes, or Cancel and click Buy Monthly… or Buy Yearly… again.
Paid, but the app still says you have no plan Keep Finish checkout in your browser open: it keeps checking. Or close Settings and open Settings › Cloud again. Account deletion scheduled Someone asked to delete your account; it waits 72 hours. If it wasn’t you, click Cancel Deletion (or the link in the email), then remove that computer.
You’ve asked to delete this account several times today. Try again tomorrow. At most 3 deletion requests a day.

Yes. Every feature of Cloak Proxy outside Personal Cloud is free for life, with no account. Cloud is an optional subscription for syncing between Macs and share links. See Free for life.

No. They’re encrypted on your Mac with keys only your computers and your Recovery Kit hold. Subcloak sees your email, your plan, how many computers you have, and the rounded size and timing of what you sync. See Security and privacy.

No. Personal Cloud syncs rules, mock sets, scopes, saved queries and filters, a short list of settings and your API client workspaces. Captured traffic stays on each Mac. To send captured requests to someone, use a share link.

What happens to my rules if I stop paying?

Section titled “What happens to my rules if I stop paying?”

Nothing on your Macs changes. The copy on each Mac is always the main copy, and Cloud never deletes local data. Your Cloud copy is kept for 30 days after the plan ends, then deleted. See When a plan ends.

There isn’t one. You sign in with a code sent to your email.

Making a new kit needs the current one, so a lost kit can’t be replaced from the app yet. If you still have a signed-in Mac, your data is safe and keeps syncing: email hello@subcloak.com from the account’s address and we’ll help you set up a new kit. See Recovery Kit.

Your Cloud data can’t be recovered, by you or by Subcloak. Your data on the lost Macs isn’t affected by Cloud. You can delete the account by emailing hello@subcloak.com from its address, and start again.

Can I use Cloud on Linux, an iPhone or Windows?

Section titled “Can I use Cloud on Linux, an iPhone or Windows?”

Not yet. Personal Cloud is in Cloak Proxy for Mac. The Linux beta doesn’t have it.

Personal Cloud is for one person’s computers. Each computer you approve can read everything you sync. Share links work for sending requests to anyone.

Sign out on each Mac (Settings › Cloud › Sign Out of Personal Cloud…), cancel your plan or delete the account (Delete Account…), and if you like, turn on Don’t suggest Personal Cloud elsewhere in the app in Settings › Cloud. Organizations can turn it off with the CloudDisabled managed preference. See Personal Cloud.

Email hello@subcloak.com. Include the exact message from Settings › Cloud. Never send your Recovery Kit or recovery key: Subcloak will never ask for it.
