Timeline

See every captured request from every app on one zoomable time axis, colored by status, to spot slow calls, parallel requests and the gaps where an app waited.

The Timeline tab draws every request as a bar on one shared time axis, like the network waterfall in a browser’s developer tools but across every app Cloak Proxy captures. Overlapping bars show requests running in parallel, gaps show where an app was waiting, and long bars show what held it up. Use it to understand why a screen takes three seconds to load, or to see an N+1 loop as a staircase of identical calls.

Bars start when the request started and end when the response finished.

  1. How many of the latest requests to draw
  2. Zoom the time axis
  3. Colors by status
  4. Time since the first request shown
  5. The request selected in the main window is highlighted
The Timeline tab with 38 requests over 42.67 seconds drawn as colored bars on a time axis, with a long green bar for a 3.4 second search request and a staircase of short review requests
  1. Open Insights with ⌥ ⌘ I and click Timeline.
  2. Read the summary at the top left, such as 38 requests over 42.67 s: how many requests are drawn and the time they span.
  3. Scroll down through the rows. Each row shows the method and the host and path on the left, and a bar on the right with its duration next to it.
  4. Hover over a row to see a tooltip with the method and full URL, when it started relative to the first request, how long it took and the status code.
  5. Click a row to select that request in the main window.

Rows are sorted by start time. The axis starts at 0 ms at the first request drawn and has tick marks spaced at round intervals (1, 2 or 5 times a power of ten). Times under a second are shown in milliseconds, under a minute in seconds with two decimals, and longer spans as minutes and seconds.

If no requests have been captured, the tab says No requests.

Control What it does
Show How many of the most recent requests to draw: Last 100, Last 300 (default) or Last 1,000. Cloak Proxy remembers your choice.
Zoom slider Stretches the time axis from 1× to 20×. Scroll sideways to move along it. The magnifying glass icons mark zoom out and zoom in.
Color Meaning
Green 2xx response.
Blue 3xx redirect.
Orange 4xx client error.
Red 5xx server error, or the request failed.
Gray Pending: no response yet. The bar grows until the response arrives.
Purple An HTTPS tunnel that wasn’t decrypted. Not shown in the legend.

The legend at the top right lists the first five. The row of the request selected in the main window is highlighted, and the bar under the pointer is drawn at full opacity.

The timeline draws every request in the current scope, including static files and undecrypted tunnels. CONNECT requests that were decrypted are left out, because the requests inside them appear as their own rows.

The scope follows the menu at the top of the Insights window: All traffic or Current filter. Pick Current filter and select one app in the main window’s sidebar to see only that app’s requests. See Insights overview.
